Vegvisir | Algiz Rune | Viking Wall Art | Viking Runes | Viking Art | Viking Decor | Pagan Decor

The Vegvisir, the runic compass or the Viking/Nordic compass are all names for the same symbol. It is made of eight Viking rune staves. It is a symbol of protection and guidance that was believed to be used as a compass by Viking people. The meaning of the word Vegvisir means 'wayfinder' and/or 'sign post' in Icelandic language.

Today it is commonly known as a Viking compass, Viking historians still debate the origins. Some believing it to be a very old symbol. While others believe its origins are much more recent in history.

In old text it is written that this symbol would help the one wearing it, to not get lost and find their way back home.

This piece is 14'' x 14'' in diameter. It's a circular shape. Cut from 14 gauge mild steel. Extremely light and can be hung with 1 or 2 small finishing nails.

A little bit about my process for creating.

My ideas generally center around, nature and Celtic, Norse and other ancient mythology.

I use a combination of hand plasma and CNC to cut the metal. All images I trace or hand draw initially. This gives the final pieces a more authentic feel as the cut is not perfectly symmetrical. Then the image is scanned onto the computer. It is fixed up to be made readable for the plasma CNC to cut. Keeping with the natural look, I grind and texture the piece raw silver

Lastly, its clear coated to protect the finish.
